I knew the gun was post-1912 based on the proofs. The name on the scope (Emil Kerner & Sohn) provided another clue as the '& Sohne' nomenclature first shows up in the mid-1920s. The serial number on the gun is 9857 and the serial number on the scope is 6581.

Remove the bolt by pressing the bolt stop on the left side of the receiver and pulling the bolt all the way clear. Rotate the trigger guard 90 degrees when removing the aft screw, then lift the trigger guard free. Under the trigger guard you gain access to the second action screw, the one at the rear end of the action, remove it, then go to the large action screw in front of the magazine.
